Gil was a bit confused when Persephone called him sweet. After all, he wasn't really doing anything out of the ordinary; he tried to be nice to pretty much everyone he met, unless they gave him a reason not to.
Which no one here had done quite yet. But, it was becoming even more painfully obvious that Persephone and Iasan had once dated. And, from the way they were acting, had probably just recently broken up.
"No, I'm usually like this," he smiled, resisting the urge to move away from Persephone a bit. It wasn't that he didn't find her attractive; quite the contrary, but he was uncomfortable with being a potential rebound.
But the way that Lux was acting was worrying to Gil. "Everything all right, Lux?" he asked, concerned. He hated to see people hurting, and he would do everything he could to make sure Lux was okay. Yes, he'd just met her, but he was that sort of person.

Okay, Persephone, get hold of yourself. You dumped him, and you had damn good reasons for doing so. You can't blame him for moving on, even if his rebound is ... not the sort of girl you would have expected him to go for. She mentally rolled her eyes at herself. Honestly, what did you expect him to do? Pine away for you forever?
Quite frankly, she had expected it to take him a bit longer to move on from her, if that was what he was doing. Honestly, at this point, he could just be doing that to sort of ... get back at her. Then again, he was a genuinely caring person, and Lux was at least attractive; there could be something to what he was doing.
But then he mentioned her "cruelty" and her eyes narrowed again.
"If, by cruel, you mean trying to focus on my studies then, no, I doubt that most people are prepared to deal with that; I actually want to be able to get a good job after I graduate," she shot back. She'd been far too distracted when she was with Iasan, and she wasn't going to let that happen again.

"I'm sorry. You're right. It's not okay that I'm doing that," he pressed a finger to his temple, "I don't know what I'm thhinking. I'm sorry. I'm being sincere. And I'm being sincere about wanting to help. People need other people, it's human nature."
Iasan's eyes turned on Persephone, filled with hurt and anger, "You were just scared. Studies are just a good lie. And of course you want a good job. It was all abouot you wasnt it?" His Irish accent grew thicker, he didn't believe any of this. But the words had been tumbling around in his mind and he needed them out. He needed her gone. That was the only way he could pretend to be better, even if he wasn't. "I gave you everything," that was true, "even hen I had nothing left to give," true too, "And you just took my heart and stomped on it. That's the cruelty I'm talking about." He didn't care that people were here. It didn't matter. Embarressment was the least she deserved. [/blockquote]

"I'm fine, Gilbert." Lux wouldn't call him Gil as she didn't know him. She wasn't fine but she wouldn't admit that to anyone but Sam. When she listened to the Ravenclaw and Gryffindor converse she started to feel bad for the way she reacted to Iasan. She looked at him his story was about pain and she understood, he might not have went through what she had but it was pain all the same. She reached over and placed a gentle hand on his shoulder.
She understood pain, she may not have had her heart broke like that but she still understood. She didn't know what to tell him, she wanted to tell him to try to ignore her but that would be like someone telling her to try to ignore her step-father. As she looked at the boy her eyes betrayed the pain she felt inside, though she didn't mean for them to. The only person that knew of her past was her friend Sam.
She could tell that they had been a couple once by what he had said. "I'm sorry for snapping at you but it's hard for me to trust anyone."

Well, this was certainly awkward. He and Lux were caught in the middle of an ex-lover's spat, and it seemed as though this argument had needed to happen for quite some time. Gil's eyes moved back and forth as they argued, almost as though he was following a Quidditch match.
He opened his mouth to say something in the middle of ... whatever was going on, but stopped short, unwilling to interrupt. They were both hurting, clearly, but they didn't see eye to eye on what had happened. Maybe he could help change that?
No, he wasn't going to interfere. Not yet, anyway. But he was brought back to reality by Lux as she finally spoke.
"Please, call me Gil," he murmured as Lux said his full name. "And I'll add my offer to Iasan's; if you ever need someone, for any reason, let me know. I know you don't know me, but I am good at being a shoulder," he smiled, still feeling a bit awkward.

Persephone had been about to respond to Gil, but then Iasan started talking to her again.
"Scared?" she repeated, incredulous. "Scared of what, Iasan? Scared that you weren't really serious about anything? Scared that I would end up working a ridiculous amount of hours and possibly jobs in order to support us? Because if you're thinking any of those things, then, yes, I was scared."
She paused to take a steadying breath, holding back the tears. Perhaps they should have had this talk long ago, but there was nothing for it now.
At this point, she was pretty much ignoring the other two students in order to respond to what Iasan had said to her.
"And I gave everything of myself back," she whispered. "I did everything I could to help you, Iasan, with anything and everything. I care--cared about you, and I wanted you to ... be more. For yourself."
Persephone had to stop to take a breath again. "I ... didn't mean to be cruel. I just ... wanted what was best. For both of us," she finished, still whispering.

Iasan didn't care that there were people here. It didn't matter anymore. He rose to his feet, standing in front of the Ravenclaw blond, "What was best for me? What was best for both of us? You wanted to turn me into one of your nose in a book Ravenclaws. If you wanted someone like that so bad, why didn't you just date one of those? No! You dated me. You knew who I was. That I wasn't like you. Or him," he pointed to Gil and gave an apologetic smile, "Sorry man," his gaaz returned to Persephone, "You gave me what you had time to give. I can't tell you how many nights I spent alone because you needed to study just a little bit harder. 'Cause you have to be better than everyone! And I didn't fit into that. I was a troublemaker. I found more in living than I ever did in library books. Learning isn't all about books Perseph. It's about living. Maybe I'm not gonna be an Auror or something usful and prissy like that. But I'm gonna be something. Something I wanna be. But that just wasn't enough for you."

"Okay, then." Lux wrapped her arms around her legs once more. She felt like she was invisible to the two love birds. She shook her head annoyed at them, "You know what? I came here to get away from shit like this, so if you two are going to fight then go somewhere else." Her tone was calm but annoyed. She hated when people ruined her day, or life. She removed her arms from around her legs then stood up. "On second thought I will leave, so you, Iasan, wont have anyone to try to get as a rebound. I have been through enough in my life and I do not want to add that to my list."
She hadn't even had a boyfriend let alone her first real kiss and she didn't want her first boyfriend to be that of a rebound. Lux walked away to a different tree before sitting down. She had made sure to be where she couldn't hear them. She had skipped class to be away from people and yet people had showed up to ruin her fun. She went to sitting like she had at the other tree, knees to her chest and arms wrapped around her legs.

Quite frankly, this was getting a little bit ... awkward. Well, actually, that was rather an understatement. At this point, he was rather glad that he hadn't started dating yet, if this was what he had to look forward to.
Hopefully, though, when he did start dating, that wouldn't end up happening. He was bound to have at least one break-up, he was sure, but well, hopefully it wouldn't happen right away.
But, Lux seemed to have the right idea.
"I don't really want to interrupt this ... discussion," he said, standing. It was painfully obvious that they had needed to have this talk a long time ago, and he needed to let them have it.
"See you around, Iasan, Persephone," he muttered, and followed Lux to her tree.

The departure of the other two people didn't really register to Persephone. Without even realizing it, she was on her feet, too, blonde hair flying as she stood.
"I never tried to change you," she retorted. "I chose to date you because you were different. But you wouldn't let me be myself. I had to spend every moment I had with you. And no, I don't have to be better than everyone; I simply have to do my best or I'm letting my mother down. The mother who died trying to better Wizarding society. And I have to live up to that," she finished in a whisper.
"You could have fit into that, Iasan. If you'd truly wanted to," she said, rather miserably. It was obvious that they should have talked this out earlier, but well, there was nothing for it now.

"Ever think I had a reason wanting you so close? Tell me how mny times did I get detention when we were dating. I'll tell you. 3." He held up three fingers in her face, "And that was 'cause guys were leering at you. They deserved the punch in the face. And don't even play the mom card! At least you know something about your mom. Know what I know about my parents?" He pulled wad of bills out of his back pocket, "That they're loaded. I changed a lot to be with you Peresephone. I buckled down. I bit my lip. I took lonliness when I need you the most. And you just dropped me. I don't fit with your image. That's fine. But at least tell me that it was that. Instead of giving me reasons and taking them away. As far as I'm concerned it just seems like you didn't want me anymore," he pulled out another cigarette and dragged it deepl "i tried it your way. I couldn't do it. I tried it my way. I got dumped. I never asked you to change yourself. I just didn't want to feel like I was competeing for your attentions with a bloody book!" [/blockquote]

"If you did, you certainly never told me," she shot back. "I was your trophy girlfriend; just a pretty little thing with no real use."
Now they were getting into territory that she hadn't really wanted to stray into. She didn't really think some of the things that she was saying, but he was out to hurt her; why couldn't she get there first and save herself the pain?
"The reason that I broke up with you, Iasan, was hardly because you don't fit in with my image; I don't care what other people think! Or have you not met my sister? Most people think I should be embarrassed by her but I'm not. Because I love her! My "image" doesn't matter, despite what you may think."
She shook her head, a bit incredulous. "And here is another thing. You don't believe me. Everything I have said to you has been the truth, but you can't or won't believe me. Clearly, I am not what's best for you; apparently, I make you crazy." Which was sad, in a way, really. They had been pretty good friends before they'd started dating, but well, that was never going to happen again.
But then she softened a bit. "If you were unhappy with things, why didn't you just tell me?"

Iasan heaved a large sigh and pressed a finger to his temple. "You don't get it do you? You can't even begin to understand," he reached his free hand into his hoodie pocket and pulled out a small circular object. Upon closer observation it was a ring, with a thin silver band and a small diamond, "I saved up all year for this. I was..." Iasan shook his head, "I was gonna give it to you. The day you broke up with me. No matter what happened, I loved you. Who you were didn't matter," he chuckled sadly, "I thought who I was didn't. And I was gonna give it to you to tell you," he threw the ring at her, "Keep it. I don't need it anymore. I can't look at it anymore." [/blockquote]

Wordlessly, she caught the ring he threw at her. He ... had been planning to propose. And she'd broken up with him the day he'd been planning to take things the next step.
At this point, she was speechless. Iasan ... truly loved her. That had been something she had always wondered about, whether he actually loved her or he more loved the idea of her. This answered her question in an irrefutable way. If only she'd known that sooner!
"Iasan...," she started, eyes filling up with tears. "I...I'm sorry," she whispered, turning to run from the scene. She couldn't deal with anymore of Iasan right now, or she would start crying. And she wouldn't cry in front of him, not anymore.
