It was a calm day at Hogwarts for the first time in a while. All the students had nothing to do. Classes had been temporary postponed for the day as alot of the teachers had business to do at the Ministry of Magic. What a day it was too. The weather was incredible today, the sun was shining and there was a cool breeze that stopped it from being overly hot. By the looks of things the students were loving it. Some because the weather, some because they didn't have any classes.
In the courtyard, alot of students had gathered. All the houses were mixed together, that is apart from the Slytherin house. Most of their students stuck together, as usual. Of course, there were some exceptions to the rule. Not all Slytherin were so arrogant. Nathan Merrick was however, he wasn't in the mood for the weather. He'd rather be in the dorms, researching some kind of magic that none of his classmates knew. He sat in the corner with a group of Slytherin students, most of whom he detested or hadn't spoken to much.
As he looked round the small group of students, he thought how much he wished he wasn't a Slytherin. However there was no house he would rather be in. He saw flaws in all the traits of the houses and wished he had been made a special case at Hogwarts. Although, when he first came to Hogwarts, that kind of thinking made the sorting hat almost immediately put him in Slytherin. Then Nathan looked at the other houses, mixed together and being friendly, and every so often saw a flash on green from the Slytherin students mixing with the others. He wasn't sure whether to think less of them for not sticking to the Slytherin way, or to respect them slightly more for getting over what he considered to be his house's greatest weakness. Even he had started to mix more with other houses because he realized this.
As Nathan looked up at the sun, he had to cover his eyes with his hand. It was at this time he wished he knew an incantation to change the weather. Unfortunately for him he had neither the power or knowledge how to. Most of his housemates either looked up to him or were afraid of him. They knew how skilled he was in a duel, he took after his father in that respect. He sat there for a few hours, listening to the crowd's conversation, occasionally throwing in his two cents and smiling. Although inside he was getting more and more frustrated at them.
After a while he heard his 'friends' talking about the Death Eaters. One of them stood up in the crowd, wand in hand and pretended to fight the Death Eaters. As he went on, the young Slytherin began to say how every Death Eater were weak cowards. Upon hearing this, Nathan quickly got to his feet and pointed his wand at the student. "Expelliarmus!" he shouted as Nathan disarmed the other wizard, sending his want flying several feet away onto the grass. Nathan continued toward the other wizard and he backed up until Nathan had him against one of the courtyard walls, the tip of Nathan's wand slightly prodding into the younger Slytherin's chest. By now most of the other Slytherin students had stood up, trying to see what was happening. Most of them feared for the younger boy, but took comfort in the fact that they knew Nathan knew better than to harm a student in Hogwarts. Filled with anger Nathan stared into the young boy's eyes. "The Death Eaters are weak cowards!? How dare you disrespect them! The Death Eaters had some of the greatest wizards that have ever lived! I should teach you some respect!" he bawled at the boy. The fellow Slytherin's pleaded with him to stop, "come on Nathan, he's only just started his third year!" one of them shouted. The young boy clearly was panicking, he was on the verge of crying.
Nathan enjoyed this sense of fear, and fought hard to stop a smile from forming on his face. His mother had been a Death Eater, and disrespecting them was like disrespecting his mother. Protecting his mother's name was always important to Nathan. "It looks to me that the only person who is a weak coward here is you!" he said, this time slightly more restrained. Just then, he remembered that he had spent his time away from Hogwarts developing his self control. To control his anger was vital, he didn't want to arouse too much suspicion. Somebody filled with so much rage would probably be watched very carefully by the staff of Hogwarts and that is not what he needed. Nathan looked into the boy's eyes again then looked round at the crowd that had gathered, even a few students from the other houses had gathered round to watch. It was a surprise to him that none of them had tried to stop any of this.
Slowly, Nathan lowered his wand from the boy and walked through the crowd, having to barge his way past a couple of people. The young wizard that Nathan had threatened hugged what looked like his sister and started sobbing on her shoulder, and was shortly ridiculed by some of the students in his year.
Nathan stood against the tree near the middle of the courtyard, his back to the Slytherin's as he looked up at Hogwart's architecture. The only thing on his mind was how foolish that was to do, especially in Hogwarts. He was most likely going to get into trouble, "seventh years should know better" he could already here the professors say. Discipline was what he despised, especially if it was Dumbledore. Maybe he would get away with it if it was only the Slytherins saw, but since members of the other houses saw. The 'goody-goody's' from the other houses would probably run tell one of the professors. Stupid stupid stupid stupid! he shouted in his head, the last thing I need right now is to get disciplined. There has to be a way out of this![/i].
As he looked round he saw that the groups were more or less how they were before. Everyone was talking to each other and happy, that was the way of teenagers. Drama happens then a few moments later it's old news. Nathan pushed off the tree with his shoulder and sat on the grass against the courtyard wall by himself. Surely he wasn't the most popular person right now. A seventh year threatening a third year was low, even by Slytherin standards. As he sat with his knees up and arms rested on them, he lightly tapped the tip of his wand against his knee, staring into space, thinking about what was going to happen.
