Every site must have rules, and this one is no different.
General Rules
1. Be respectful. The other members on here have just as much a right to be here as you do, so respect them.
2. Listen to the staff. If they tell you to fix something, just do it. If they warn you, you probably did something wrong, so correct it. If you feel that they have done something unreasonably or been unfair, PM me and I will hear both sides of the story to make a decision. But please, check to ensure that you also are being fair and reasonable. Also, keep in mind the respect rule. If a staff member unfairly does something and you take the entire wrong attitude, you've acted just as poorly.
3. No vulgar language or graphic content. I will accept some language in character, but nothing extreme. This side is open to kids as young as 13; as such, I will allow nothing too violent or graphic IN or OUT of character! Basically, nothing stronger than the content in the books or movies, alrighty?
4. Please note that rules are subject to change and that more may be added at any time. If this happens, a PM or announcement will be sent out or posted, and all members will be expected to follow the new rule. If it requires a change, then there will be an adjustment period, of course.
5. Warnings will be given to members who fail to follow rules. The nature of the issue will determine the severity of the action taken. Nonetheless, if it is something extremely horrid, staff reserves the right to suspend or ban members. Repeat offenders will find that punishments get increasingly worse.
6. When it comes to the C-box, all normal rules apply. Double posting and such is accepted, but please, don't flood the c-box unnecessarily.
Account and Character Rules
1. Everyone must have one and only one out of character [OOC] account. This account will be used to post in all OOC boards, such as plots, advertising, games, and chat.
2. Due to the fact that individual characters will each have money, each character must have his or her own account. For example, if one person RPs both Hermione and Snape, he or she will have three accounts: one for OOC, one for Hermione, and one for Snape. Whenever a person makes a new account/character, he or she will need to notify the appropriate staff member to inform them to update the directory. Also, it is requested that members put a list of their character on their OOC account somewhere, both to aid themselves and others in identifying who is who.
3. Canons must be auditioned for separately from simply creating a biography for them. More information concerning this process will be placed in the canon and application sections of the site.
4. Everyone must post a bio for each character. No skimping on this, though if you have concerns with the audition form, please PM me. I understand that some people don't like to give the full personality, instead preferring to RP the character and let them be organic; I will allow this if requested. However, don't take this as a way to avoid something and be lazy. If you request to make the personality portion lax, I will expect you to make up for it in your roleplaying.
5. You may have five characters total. This includes canons and your own original creations. Please, do not have five simply to have five. You are expected to actively RP your characters. Only take on as much as you can handle. If you have five characters, want another one, and feel as though you can handle one more, PM me and I will consider granting you permission.
Note: Do NOT make another OOC account so that you may have five more characters. I will know.
Exception/Special Note: If you have one of your character's children to be RPed and they are born on the site/made when under 5, they will not count toward your limit.
6. We will allow a few werewolves or partial veela aside from canons. However, we will restrict such powers if we have too, seeing as they are rare and we intend to keep them that way. That being said, should you wish to RP one, please include that in your bio and PM a staff member so that we know.
7. There is to be a limited number of animagi. Seeing as they are rare and difficult to achieve, please have a good story for how/why your character became one. Please note that you must also be registered unless you have a very good and convincing story.
8. For your IC accounts, please set the name as the characters' first and last name. For example, Harry Potter or Albus Dumbledore.
Canon Rules
1. You must be willing to commit to this character. Naturally, you should commit yourself to all your characters, but specifically for canons. This means being active and RPing them often.
2. Stay true to the character. We will have information about each canon available, and there are other excellent references to go to for even more detailed information. However . . .
3. Obviously, we have tweaked characters and their story line; therefore, you are extended the same ability. Nevertheless, to keep this in check, we require to tell us what you would like to change. There are some things we will not allow you to change. Please, don’t be angry if this is the case. There is some reason, even if it isn’t a painfully obvious one.
Note: There are some staff-indicated changes to characters. Please stay consistent with these, or ask us about changing them.
4. We will allow canon-related characters upon request that are not canons. For example, if you want Draco to have a sister, simply ask. However, the claimed canons who will be affected by your request will be notified and must agree. For example, if you want the Weasley’s to have another daughter and both Molly and Bill have been claimed, they must be asked and agree. Also, if they disagree, they must have some reasonable reason for denying the request. The staff does have limited rights to override their denials, specifically if they have no reason whatsoever.
5. The two highest positions [headmaster and minister of magic] will be held by staff. However, the rest are open for regular members as well as staff. If you apply for a high-up position, particular someone in charge of a division of the ministry or a Head of House, you will be expected to understand that, sometimes, your character will need to do or be something specific in order to help along with a site plot or some other things. Before being granted the right to RP such character, you must agree via PM that you accept the above terms. For example, say that part of the plot involved a portion of the ministry to pass a law. If your character is head of that portion of the ministry, we expect you to create/pass this law [assuming it is consistent with the character’s goals and personality. If not, we will find another creative way to do this. ] Or, say that we need a teacher to teach something specific; we expect you to do this upon request, since you are RPing the character that we need to get the plot moving.
6. Since you'll already have a lot done for you biography-wise, we will expect you to give a roleplaying sample for the character in a situation we will provide for you. If several people are applying for the same character, we will obviously be forced to choose. Also, staff reserves the right to accept or deny requests for a certain canon.
Roleplaying Rules
1. You know, I'd like to say that we are an intermediate level RP. However, I'd also like to say that we will accept anyone who is trying his or her best. Therefore, I'd say that, post-wise, try to match the person you're RPing with. No one's expecting you to come on and post 3,000 words. It's not likely, and most of the staff here don't do that. However, most of our members are good around the 500-1000 range. Don't shy off if you write less than that, though. You're still very welcome. However, you're not likely to find many who dip less than 200 words on here. ^^ That being said, we do not have an officially word minimum. Just do your best.
2. Along those lines, I'll put activity and activity checks. We will be having activity checks. They will occur randomly, and you will have five days to post. If you do not post within those five days, you will be warned.
3. If you will be gone for any longer than 3 or so days, we ask that you post and/or inform a staff member so that a note may be placed on your account in the event of an activity check, and so that others RPing with you are aware of your absense.
4. We desire that all members RP actively, particularly those with canons.
5. If you desire a character to be killed or want someone else to RP the character, post in the appropriate board and notify a staff member.
6. No godmoding. No perfect characters. No controlling other people's characters. These are basic rules that are not to be broken unless previously agreed upon. Also, you may not seriously harm or kill another person's character without their express permission.
7. There is to be one account per character, as I have stated. However, there is one exception, and that is for children. If your character has a child, he or she may be RPed by the parent from that account alongside whichever parent has the child at the time. When the child turns 5, he or she will be expected to have his/her own account. Essentially, this means that young children are RPed by whomever they are with at the time: parents or babysitters, etc.
8. Ultimately, while RPing, we desire literacy. We want you to give us a feel for your character, to put effort into your posts, and enjoy yourself! However, for the sanity of all, we expect proper usage of both grammar and spelling. I personally am not an excellent speller. Hence, spellcheck is a good friend of mine. This is not to say we expect no mistakes; no, not at all. Mistakes are going to happen. What we are saying is that we expect you to not have blatant spelling errors, horrendous grammar, and a disregard for all of the English language. Don't use chatspeak while in character or capitalize every word.
Note: If you have a foreign character, such as Fleur or Krum or Hagrid, your spelling while they speak may be altered to portray their accent or way of speaking.
9. Several locations on the site are password protected, staying true to Rowling’s HP world. Such places include the Common Rooms. Your character account will be PMed any such passwords. However, since you may have multiple characters will different passwords, you may only use the correct character with each password. So, if you have a Ravenclaw and a Hufflepuff, you’ll know both passwords, but are only to use the correct character-password combination. Don’t have your Hufflepuff mysteriously knowing the Ravenclaw’s password and getting it. That is not allowed. You may, however, ask a teacher or staff should you need the password for some reason. If it’s for a plot, we can certainly arrange a thread where you overhear it.
Finally, please know that myself and the other staff members are here to help you, not scare you. There are a lot of staff members because there is a lot to do and organize. If, at any time, you need help and are not sure whom you should ask, simply post your question in the appropriate board or PM me or one of the coadmins. We will either answer your question or direct you to the correct staff member(s).
