JD had decided a break was in order. Being a DADA assitant wasnt a glamorous as it had originally seemed. The same amount of work for half the pay. If it weren't for the school providing both room and board for him and his daughter he was pretty sure they would've starved to death by now. So at least that was good. Grading papers though, was not. And that was currently why he was takinga break. A cup of steaming earl grey tea sat beside the stack of parchments that now had his glasses resting on them. He leaned back far in his chair, hands cradling the back of his head, eyes closed in relaxation as well as taking deep steady breaths.
His mind wandered slightly and eventally wandered majorily. Most pressing on his mind was the reappearance of Jordan's mother in his life. He'd yet to tell Jordan about it and was going to delay saying anything to her for as long as possible. As usual though his ex-girlfriend was yelling at him about not having enough time with Jordan. It's her own fault! his mind snapped and his eyes twitched mildly angry. But the relaxtion slowly overtook him once more. In reality, JD knew that if he ignored the woman long enough that she'd go to Jordan and Jordan would lt her have it. Being a dad and a teacher was difficult.
His mind wandered back to the papers, the one's he was currently ignoring. He knew he should be working on them but the break just felt to nice. And might've continued that way if the sound of the Staff Room door shut loudly. His body jerked in response causing him to almost loose balance on the back two legs of his chair. Luckily he managed to land on all floors and the palms of his hand slammed on the table. An angry look flitted across his eyes as he looked at the person responsible.
(ooc: sorry it's a little short.)

And the one who had just entered the staff room was none other than Professor Severus Snape, the Professor to which JD had been assigned as assistant.
He had come to the staff room, quite frankly, to see how JD's marking was coming. As he was the full Professor, Snape would not simply let JD's marks return to the students without looking over them himself; JD tended to grade things too ... nicely.
Yes, Snape was hard on his students, but they always learned from his classes. And, at this point, that was what was needed. He was teaching them proper defence techniques, and their theories had to be correct or the whole technique would be wrong.
"Mr. Wakes," he said, sweeping into the room. "I trust the marking is going well." It was a statement, not really a question, at this point.
If Snape had known what JD was thinking about, he would have (sort of) commiserated. He himself was a professor and a father (of two, and he had sworn to bring Adam up properly. He had learned from his mistakes), and no, it was not easy at all. At least Jordan wasn't anorexic, though; then JD Wakes would have even more to deal with.

Of course it was Snape. Of course he would show up when JD was slacking off mildly. "They seem to forget that you've made me read the book. So I've had to re-read it in a variety of handwriting for the past hour or hour and a half." He answered the question truthfully. Snape expected nothing less than excellence from JD and if he didn't show that he might not get the vouch he needed from the Professor to be a full-fledged DADA teacher. "I'd be lying if I didn't say I was a little distracted," JD knew it was best to be honest with Severus, especially when it came to matters of childeren. The man understood more than he let on, "Jordan's mom has been a nasty little thorn in my side. Not to mention I haven't seen the little blond bugger in over a week. I think I've lost her to the dark side of hormones. So my brain is buzzing and the horrendous essays are doing nothing to help."

Yes, Snape had a habit of showing up when people least wanted him to, really. Apparently, he just has a knack for knowing when people are slacking off.
"I see they haven't yet learned the consequences of plagiarism," he sneered. "How many in the class decided to simply copy from the book?"
Well, this was not going to be a good lesson for his classes, that was for certain. Snape expected his students to do their best work in his classes, work that was their own and not straight from the book he'd assigned for them.
And at least JD was honest with him; Snape had known as soon as he entered the room that his assistant was distracted, and if there was one thing he despised it was people lying to him.
He listened to JD's explanation of why he'd been distracted. "Ah, yes. Teenagers," was all he said. Snape sometimes forgot that he and JD both had teenage daughters, though he doubted Jordan had as many ... issues as his own child did.
"As you are a professor, I would advise summoning her to your office. At least then you would know what had been going on with her." Sometimes, one needed to use a little bit of trickery with teenagers.

"It's a better question to ask who didn't," JD sighed, pointing to a small stack of papers, "Those are the kids who actually give a crap about your class," he pointed to a much larger pile on the opposite side of the table, "Those are the kids who don't." In reality, he wished he could just let Snape deal with it. But that really wasn't fair. JD needed to do his training if he wanted to become an actual teacher. And he really did.
As you are a professor, I would advise summoning her to your office. At least then you would know what had been going on with her. JD gave a loud, resonating laugh, "Maybe Samantha will let you get away with that. If I did that to Jordan though," his eyes grew wide as he laughed widely again, "She'd destroy me. She's got a lot of fight in her. And we may get along. But in the end I'm still her dad. So she's just not going to want to be around me. She's got friends. There are boys involved now, which terrifies me. She'll come when she's ready. Just like she always does. I just gotta give her time," he looked over at his dark-haired "over lord" and rested his cheek in his palm, "What about your teenager? How're those hormones going?" [/blockquote]

Snape raised an eyebrow as he glanced between the two stacks of papers. That many students had decided to copy directly from the book, eh? Well, they were in for an unpleasant surprise the next time they had class.
“I think this calls for detention for those students,” he murmured, taking the smaller stack from JD. “These students will be receiving points for their Houses while the others will receive detention and will lose points. Sort those essays by House,” he told his assistant, rifling through the stack of essays in which people had done their own work.
At JD’s words, it was Snape’s turn to laugh shortly. “Samantha would simply choose not to speak to me, not that she’s doing much of that at the moment, anyway,” he muttered, emotions carefully controlled.
“In that case, as her Head of House, I will talk to her,” he said. He knew what it was like to have a child who tried to avoid you and, since they were in the same sort of situation, Snape was actually going to try to help JD with his daughter.
“Sam is not exactly happy with me, at the moment,” was all he said on that account. It was going to take a lot more of … something (probably alcohol) to get Snape to say more than that. But, as they were done marking, for the moment, and Snape had already decided on the punishment for the plagiarizers, well, perhaps it was time to do something else. What, he wasn’t sure.

JD chuckled. Each word coming out of Snape's mouth had mirrored his own thoughts to a certain extent. "Hold your horses, Severus," and JD climbed to his feet and meandered over to one of the cupboards of the staff room. Scooting things out of the way, he reached his hand to the back of the cupboard and pulled out a large bottle of Firewhiskey before reaching into another cupboard and pulling out two small glasses, "Everything can wait. This," he waved the bottle as he returned to his seat, "Is much more important." He poured two large glasses of the liquid and handed the glass to the professor, "This is how you deal with teenagers. Have a lot of this till you vomit. If you feel like death in the morning you've done it right." JD chuckled and took a large gulp from his glass, letting out a light hiss as the liquid burned his throat. He really liked firewhiskey. It's how he'd dealt with lots of student and Jordan related problems before, "This is how people my age deal with our problems." [/blockquote]

Snape raised an eyebrow at JD’s laughter; was his assistant laughing at his plight? That made no sense as they were in the same sort of situation, though his teenage daughter was in a rather worse position than JD’s.
But then, the younger man had gone over to one of the cupboards in the staff room, pulling a bottle and several glasses from it. What was he doing? Considering what he’d gone through in the War, Snape was naturally still a bit wary when people tried to give him unknown substances.
Ah, but the label was still on the bottle. Still, couldn’t be too careful. Taking the glass that JD had handed to him, Snape took a whiff of the liquid, concluding that it was what the label said it was.
He didn’t usually do this sort of thing, but, well, why not? What did he really have to lose, at this point? It was a drink with a fellow educator, and Adam was currently in good hands.
“To dealing with teenagers,” he said as he threw back the glass of Firewhisky. It burned as it went down, but Snape did not make a sound. Well, this was the first time he’d had a drink like this in … a long time.
