JD pulled his glasses off, set them on his desk, and proceeded to rub the balls of his hands into his closed eyes. No one had told him that insomnia and headaches were a side-affect o being a professor when he started. But between some students lack of knowledge and other's lack of handwriting skills it had steadily become a part of his life. And one that was sometimes fun and sometimes made him want to rip out his own eyeballs. Thankfully he hadn't done that yet. And had contented himself with grumbling at particular students as he handed them back their parchment. He'd also started taking longer breaks and power naps. Things he had considered useless before but now seemed to be helping him survive.
In his current state he couldn't exactly sleep. Not because he wasn't tired but because he feared he wouldn't wake up and be able to finish the papers. Instead he chose to let his mind wander between this and that. Rasalas had been on his mind a lot lately. But that wasn't unusual to him. No what was unusual to him was the more he thought of Ras the less he seemed to see of Jordan. In fact it was going on a week since the last time he saw his daughter outside of class. And that made him worry. She was a teenager, yes, and thus hanging out with dad wasn't always fun. But she'd made it a point to come and check in even if she didn't feel like hanging out with him. But he'd seen less and less of her. And when he saw her in class she seemed tired and even worse, angry at him.
His mind was unsure as to why. No doubt, Jordan had an issue with the woman she'd never met. A little of her mother seeping out of her. But JD was used to her anger being accompanied by her screaming at him, the plight of having a teenage daughter. And it was due to her whole Alex-Grant love triangle thing. That had took it's toll on her but he generally tried to be accepting of the whole idea and supportive. So it couldn't be that.
"Having a daughter," is difficult he mumbled to himself and hoped to curb his thoughts in another direction. This lead him on a direct path to thinking about Gwen Lawrence. Though that wasn't unsurprising give Jordan's relationship with the woman and his own personal friendship with her.
JD owed so much to the potion's mistress. Aside from being an amazing friend, and yes even if their friendship was peppered with flirting, and had been a great maternal figure for Jordan. JD was pretty sure if it weren't for Gwen taking his daughter under her wing he would've been in the loony bin in this moment talking about nubbins and doxies. Or something of that caliber. Rubbing his eyes once again, JD couldn't help but wonder if Gwen had this much trouble with her students homework.

Gwen was making her way down to the office of a certain DADA Professor and close friends of hers – namely JD Wakes, she needed to talk to him about his daughter, and she was a little worried about Jordan. It seemed that JD needed to know though she was sure he already knew about it all and she needed to have a talk to him about not seeing his daughter more often. Gwen and JD seemed to hit it off straight away when they had met, people would have thought they would have ended up in a romantic relationship but they were just close friends that had a lot of flirting in their friendship, it was funny to anyone that listened to their conversation. But their friendship had become much deeper when Gwen had met Jordan and began to talking to her. It was just a little after that Gwen had begun to think of Jordan as her own daughter and that was that. If she could adopt Jordan she would do so happily. She just hoped that Jordan knew that she was not alone and Gwen was there whenever she needed someone to talk to – the world could be heartless and she did not want her to experience that, it happened to her and often she could feel like it was hopeless but it was not now, she had her family and friends.
A soft smile came to her face as her heels clicked on the hard floor, she would never be seen without any type of heel since she did find them very comfortable, and she had worn them for years. The only time people would see her in boots without heels would be when she was gathering ingredients or playing with her nieces in the park. Today Gwen wore a pair of black trousers and a black silk blouse that had a tie around the side of the neck and of course she had her black court heels on. Gwen had finished the majority of her marking and once more she had been ruthless, she had to be or the students would not learn anything and that would not look good on her as their teacher – she just wished that they actually listened. A few of the assignments had been copied word for word from one of the most common Potion books. Did the students really think that she was stupid? That she would not spot copying? They knew that in her class it was a fail and therefore a troll grade. It was the law of her land or namely her classroom.
It didn’t take her too long until she reached the office of her friend – she simply knocked on the door and walked in, this is what they did. Gwen could have almost laughed when she saw JD looking over a bunch of assignments. She always did find it amusing. Gwen had not seen him in a while with the exception of meals but that didn't seem to count. “Well hello there Sir, I don’t believe I had the pleasure of seeing your handsome face.” She grinned as she spoke up and walked further into the office and shut the door behind her. “I have just come from speaking with Jordan.” She said, getting straight to the subject.

JD couldn't help the smile that graced his face at the entrance of his favorite friend. It didn't surprise him that people often asked if they were in some sort of relationship. The way their friendship worked combined with the way she was towards his daughter was double take worth. But they'd never been anything more. Not for JD's lack of trying in the beginning. But he found his feeling's had been confused. His platonic emotions for her and deep care for her coupled with her motherly intentions towards Jordan had twisted his feelings far out of proportion.
The mention of Jordan caused his face to fall unintentionally. "I'm glad she's talking to someone about what's going on with her. I haven't been able to talk to her. Let alone see her outside of class. Is she okay?" it would be easier to talk to Jordan. But he didn't see that path presenting itself as JD offered Gwen the chair his students normally occupied in his office. Gwen sometimes reminded him of a spy when it came to Jordan. There was a lot of communication between the three. But through other people. And sadly Gwen turned out to be that other person half the time, "Tea? Or if you're stuck where I am...coffee?"

“She will survive, she is a strong kid but I can’t help but be worried about her, call it a maternal instinct even though she isn’t my own. I forgot what it was like to be a teenager.” She spoke with a sigh in her voice as she sat down on the comfortable chair and crossed her legs. “And coffee I believe will be needed; the students seem to think I am stupid and not read the Potion Books in the library.” Gwen grinned a little as she looked at him. “So how is your marking going? You seemed a tad bit stressed there.” She teased him a little and raised one eyebrow at him.
Gwen tapped her fingers against her cheek for a moment. “And I have a bone to pick with you JD, your daughter thinks you are neglecting her, she says she never sees you because of this new woman in your life.” She said looking at him. Gwen was a little shocked that he had been dating and she had not found out about it before now, but JD was a grown man and had his own life. Gwen did like to tease JD though, she found it quite fun to see him squirm often and what could she say the flirting was rather fun. It allowed her to let all her stress go and forget that she had a pile of marking that actually needed to be done. But that could wait until later, she was here to get away for a little while.

JD listened to Gwen's response before summoning a mug and pouring her a cup of coffee out of the French press. And I have a bone to pick with you JD, your daughter thinks you are neglecting her, she says she never sees you because of this new woman in your life. JD sighed as he handed her the mug before rubbing his eyes and placing his glasses back on his face. "I thought she might take it that way," he replied simply, taking a drink of his own coffee and giving a sad sort of smile, "I think she's just taking it in the wrong way. Especially with everything going on between her, Grant, and Alex. I think it's her being stressful. But I think she's right also, I haven't been very attentive. It's just hard being her dad. You get it, right? Its hard to know when to step in or not. I dunno." JD chuckled, "I haven't dated since she was born so this is kinda new to both of us. I'm glad she's talking you and getting some help. Do you need any help?" It was always JD habit to offer.

Gwen listened to what JD was saying and she was surprised he knew how his daughter would react, not that she meant that in a bad way. It was just that she had Jordan’s best interests at heart and she wanted the best for her. She took a sip of the coffee she had been given, though she was starting to become fond of tea – that was something she never thought she would ever say. “Well she was a little upset that she had actually thought you would forget about her.” She smiled a little. “And I needed an excuse to come and see you since you seem always rather busy to see this poor old friend of yours.” She grinned, teasing him a little.
“And as for that triangle of hers , I really did forget what is like to be a teenage girl and I don’t miss it at all – except maybe my youth.” She spoke thoughfully. There were a few flaws with herself that she didn’t like – maybe a few wrikles less here and there would be helpful. She was not a beauty queen by far, but there was something that she could not deny was that she had her style – she is an imperfect person and she would not change for anyone. “What do you think should I go blonde?” She grinned once again before she stared at the ceiling, before turning her attention back JD.
Then it was at that point she stood up and walked around the desk to look at the assignments he had been marking, resting her hip against the desk to his left hand side, she wincd just a little. “They don’t look all that good, they might just be as bad as the lot I should be marking right now, but it is not happening.”

"Don't go blond, you'll loo like your sister. nd since she's a no fly zone in our friendship it would be incredibly awkward if I continued to find you attractive. Not to mention people might start to think you're actually Jordan's mom," he joked watching her stroll up to ohis desk and look at the pile of papers.
They don’t look all that good, they might just be as bad as the lot I should be marking right now, but it is not happening. JD chuckled, clilmbing to his feet and standing next to his friend. "They seem to forget that I too have read their book. And I read it just asa well the first time. It doesn't make it any different in their handwriting. I can imagine potion essays are fun! Those have gotta be almost word for word there." In truth JD reveled in the moments he spent with Gwen. She was his best friend and had been so helpful with Jordan when JD couldn't exactly be there. "Not that the students really care. They just wanna get it over and done with. Remember when work ethic existed?"

Gwen could not help but laughing, she would never go blonde since she was fond of how her hair was at the moment. “I should hope you never change your opinions of me or I might have to re-evaluate my thoughts of you Professor Wakes.” She grinned as she teased him, looking at him for a moment before looking back down at the pile of work. “I hardly doubt people would mistake Jordan as my biological daughter, though the rumours I have heard about us being more than friends has been rather interesting to listen to.” Gwen spoke with a twinkle in her eyes, before laughing once more.
“I hardly remember it seemed such a long time ago, I think I have only a few students that actually work and I am quite surprised to say they are the Slytherins namely Jordan and Samantha Snape.” She spoke as she folded her arms and looked her left and at her friend. They had seemed to click very well and for a while there might have been something more to develop further but there was a reason why her relationships never seemed to last longer than a few months – all because of one man. But she was not going to let her ruin her mood. “Anyway dear friend, how about we forget about our mess called students and their assignments and relax for once.” It was more of a statement than a question.
