Show me how to LIE
You're getting BETTER all the time
And TURNING all AGAINST the ONE
Is an ART that's HARD to TEACH!
At times, Amara is emotionless, cold, and distant. That’s only when she feels threatened, however – like she's being accused, like she has to defend herself with everything she has, including her sharp tongue. Outside of these situations, however, she’s a tiny bit more open. Though, due to her upbringing in a society- and status-minded home, Amara is more reserved with her emotions, and expressions. She’s most reserved about her sexuality, and slightly with sexuality in general, though that doesn’t bother her as much. She is also very good at concealing her feelings behind a mask, and will almost always do so. The very few exceptions concern her family, but those are once-in-a-blue-moon type of occurrences.
She's just a tad arrogant about her strengths, and quite vehement about keeping any weakness she has hidden. Amara is often bitter about the fact that people seem to have an aversion to her, just because of whom her family is, but hides it well with stinging words and acidic glances. To put it simply, she's quite hurt on the inside, and hates herself for it. So, she turns her hate outward. It may seem cliché that she enjoys making others hurt as much as she does – not to mention petty – but Amara's cynicism is really the root of this. She believes that everyone will betray her eventually, even her own family. (Even if she would gladly die before letting hard come to her family, if she could help it.)
But, again, all of it is just a cover. In truth, she just wants to be loved, no matter what she has to do – or allow to be done to herself – to get it. She could be called a masochist, but that isn’t strictly true; she doesn’t enjoy the pain, but will bear it if it allows the person hurting her to love and truly see her. This was best reflected in the relationship she shared with her father. So long as he would acknowledge her existence – whether it was in shouting at her or hurting her physically – she would be happy; because, really, she saw that in and of itself as a kind of love. And love was something that she didn’t and had never received from anyone else.
As for relationships of any kind, they are few and simple, really. She’s never had the time for, or even wanted, friends/friendship; and in all honesty, the prospect of attachment in that fashion doesn’t appeal to her too much. Acquaintances, co-workers and the like are fine, but friends… nothing doing. She knows she has a good deal of enemies, if simply because she has defied convention all her life, but also because of her cold, intimidating, and cruel personality. She isn't interested in love or a lover simply because she's had feelings for too many straight girls in the past; she knows no-one would have her, emotionally defunct as she is, let alone a woman that would meet her taste (beautiful, intelligent, spunky, and most importantly, of pureblood lineage). Her family means more to her than her own life, even if she and most of the members are estranged; she would gladly die for them, despite having been disowned ten years previously, and hopes to rebuild relationships with her brother and mother.
